Get to Know NTFB Driver Trung Dinh

Trung is one of 15 drivers behind the wheel of the North Texas Food Bank’s new fleet.

North Texas Food Bank driver Trung Dinh says while he enjoys driving the Food Bank’s new trucks, it’s his ability to help other people that makes the job one he loves.

“I love helping people,” he says.

Trung joined the NTFB in June but has around four years of experience as a truck driver.

At the NTFB, he delivers food to Agency Partner Sharing Life three times each week. He also regularly picks up donated groceries from two different Sam’s Clubs in Denton County, and makes several other deliveries each week.

“Working with the same Agency Partners makes both of our jobs easier,” he says, adding that he’s able to build relationships and to know exactly where and how they’d like food delivered.

Trung spoke during an event celebrating the NTFB’s new fleet, which includes 12 Model 579 long-haul semi-trucks and eight Model 548 refrigerated box trucks purchased with The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) funds from Peterbilt Motors Company in Denton (learn more about the fleet and the event here).

The savings and increased capacity provided by the new fleet will allow the NTFB to deliver an additional 2.4 million meals annually.

Trung said Peterbilt trucks are known for their higher level of comfort. He added that the trucks also have better safety features and are more reliable than other trucks, which is important when agencies are depending on the NTFB to deliver food for distribution to neighbors facing hunger.

In total, the NTFB’s transportation team delivers about 150 orders per day and during the last fiscal year delivered around 2.5 million pounds of food each week. To do that, they travel an average of 1,800 miles each day.

Trung says the job requires a lot of work and coordination but it’s one that he and the team are proud to do.

“I love it,” he says.
