Feed the Need at the State Fair!

We are just two weeks out from the return of the iconic State Fair of Texas! After turning into a drive-thru event last year, Big Tex will one again be welcoming guests to enjoy the games, rides and, of course, the food.

For more than 30 years, the North Texas Food Bank and the State Fair of Texas have partnered to host a canned food drive while the State Fair takes place each fall. And this isn’t just any food drive – it historically has been the Food Bank’s largest canned food drive every year. During the 2019 Fair, we collected more than 325,000 pounds of food during special promotion days, when State Fair guests received discounted admission in exchange for donating canned food items to help feed families in need.

Even during last year’s nontraditional experience where attendees could not bring physical cans, the State Fair gifted $25,000 to the NTFB by donating a portion of the drive-thru’s proceeds.

This year there are several opportunities to “Feed the Need” when you visit the State Fair of Texas.

OPENING DAY – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24

Bring two jars of peanut butter to donate to the North Texas Food Bank for a special promotion and receive $10 admission at the gate. These peanut butter donations are part of NTFB’s annual Peanut Butter Drive running through the month of September. Much of what we receive from the Peanut Butter Drive is distributed to children and families through the NTFB Food 4 Kids program.

OPENING WEEKEND – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

The Food Bank will have a pop-up shop at Chevy Park Plaza throughout the Fair’s opening weekend. The shop will feature NTFB T-shirts, bracelets, a foodie item and more and proceeds will all benefit the Food Bank.

EVERY WEDNESDAY OF THE FAIR

Feed the Need every Wednesday with the Fair’s best opportunity to save big and give back to the community. By bringing five canned food items for the North Texas Food Bank, fairgoers will receive admission for only $5!

Thank you to the State Fair and its guests for the longstanding commitment to hunger relief. We can’t wait to be back in the Fairgrounds soon!
